Springfield High School Class of 1951

Biology Club

The Biology Club is always one of Springfield High School's busiest clubs. Under the able guidance of Miss Gladys Leatherman, the club has greatly prospered. Their many activities consist of lectures, music, excursions, and an allover interesting program for the members. As is the yearly custom, potted plants were sent to the veterans at the Patterson Field Hospital for their Easter trays. This club not only serves those who belong, but also does its bit to bring cheer to others.

Star and Atom

As shown by their picture, the members of the Star and Atom Club, our scientists of tomorrow, take a great interest in their activities. Programs of the club this year included movies, demonstrations, a visitation to the Union Mills and Perfection Laundry, and the traditional spring picnic.

The members of the club do not restrict their business to entertainment, however. With their club sponsor, Mr. A. B. Shaffer, they sold football programs in order to raise money for a permanent shelf of scientific books in our library as a memorial to Frank E. McKaig, late science instructor at Springfield High.

Industrial Club

Members of the Industrial Club above are Claude Barnhardt, John Miller, Joe Cahoon, Barry Mabre, Dan Detrick, Mr. Marvin Crabbe, Nelson Littlejohn, Roger Carr, Dick Might, Ray LeValley, (kneeling), Charles Walker, and Carl Thomas.

The Industrial Club is composed of the members of the Vocational and Industrial Education classes. Its purpose is to give these boys an idea of what they can expect in the industrial world. The curriculum of the club involves the viewing of movies, the visiting of various factories in the city, and actually participating in the fields in which they are interested. Thus Springfield High School prepares its youth to take their places in the world.
