Dorothea Baker Young


Dorothea Baker Young, 75, a native of Springfield passed away Monday, June 30, 2008 in Springfield Regional Medical Center Fountain Campus surrounded by her family.

She was born August 12, 1932 the daughter of James I. and Clara H. (Phelps) Baker and was a graduate of Columbus School for Girls and Greer Women's College.

Mrs. Young was a lifetime member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and belonged to Springfield Country Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Paul F. Young, Lt. j.g. United States Navy (ret.). Dottie was a loving and devoted mother and is survived by her three sons and a daughter and their families: Paul Derrick and Edie Young of Springfield and their children Hannah and Keenan; William B. and Colleen Young of Huntsville, Alabama and their children Shawn (his wife Ali), Austin and Cory Young; James B. and Cheryl Young of Tampa, Florida and their children Savanna, Cameron and Kaley Young; Jennifer B. Young Battle of Jacksonville, North Carolina and her children Tavi and Brittany Battle; two great grandchildren Landon Young and Arianna Battle; two brothers and a sister-in-law, her twin James H. Baker of Columbus, Ohio, and Peter B. and Helen Baker of Cincinnati, Ohio; two nieces Barbara Cook and Sarah Baker.

The family will receive visitors Friday from 5-6 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 AM. in Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Raymond Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Young's name to Covenant Presbyterian Church or to Emmanuel Christian Academy.
