Margery Jane Wetterling

Margery Jane Wetterling, 82, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008 in her residence, after a short illness. She was born November 16, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Samuel K. and Myrtle J. (McCormick) Shield. She was a registered nurse for over 44 years. Her last nursing position, which she retired from, was the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield, Ohio. She graduated in 1948 from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with a three year degree under the United States Cadet Nursing Corps program towards the end of WWII.

She loved gardening and was looking forward to getting back to her flowers and her tomatoes. She was an avid garage sale shopper who enjoyed finding bargains and treasures for her family, projects she was involved with, or herself. Marge enjoyed working at the Enon Emergency Relief Food Pantry and volunteering at Enon Elementary School. She was active with the United Methodist Women at the Enon United Methodist Church, her doll club, and several senior citizen groups.

She enjoyed meeting with her nursing friends for lunch, her doll club friends, and "The Lunch Bunch." She was fortunate enough to travel throughout the US, Europe, and Australia in her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, W. Wallace (Wally) Wetterling, who she married on February 14, 1948, and brothers Samuel and John.

She is survived by her three children: Steven E. Wetterling and Pamela Holt of Portland, Oregon; Norma L. Raiff of Enon, Ohio; and Jeanne M. and Gary Shipe of Emmaus, Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Steve's son, M. Galen Wetterling of Portland, Oregon; Norma's children: Giles C. and Sandy Poole of Bellbrook, Ohio; Vanessa M. and Kevin Majewski of Springfield, Ohio; and Ryan N. Raiff of Enon, Ohio; and Jeanne's step-children, Christine and Sarah Shipe of Emmaus, Pennsylvania. Marge was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great grandchild in October. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Lou Luce of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Judy Cunningham of Edmond, Oklahoma, one brother, Robert D. Shield, of Great Falls, Virginia, a sister-in-law, Rena Shield, of Roscoe, Illinois, numerous nieces and nephews, and many great friends. She is also survived by her sweet poodle, Molly, and four grandpuppies--Cleo, Gary, Moose, and Matty.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Enon United Methodist Church by Pastor Jeff Mohr. Burial will follow at the Enon Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the oncology nurses and PCT's at Springfield Regional Medical Center - East High Street Campus, for their outstanding care, Community Mercy Hospice for all their care and services, Lisa from Comfort Keepers for her care and assistance during this difficult time, and the Best Friends Pet Therapy group for visiting her while she was in the hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Enon United Methodist Church, 85 Broadway Road, Enon, Ohio, 45323, or the Enon Emergency Relief (Food Pantry), P. O. Box 121, Enon, Ohio, 45323.
