Sue "Bess" Elizabeth Tipton

Sue "Bess" Elizabeth Tipton, 97, of Springfield passed away February 6, 2008 at the Alterra Sterling House where she lived for the past 8½ years.

She was born May 26, 1910 in Madison County, Kentucky, the daughter of John Embry and Bessie T. (Alexander) Park.

She had been a Springfield resident since 1934 and attended Hillside Church of God. Sue Bess worked for a short time at Crowell Collier. Her warm and vibrant personality made her loved by all who knew and came into contact with her. Her quick wit and warm sense of humor was often accented by her use of Appalachian expressions which delighted everyone. Her life-long love of animals was highlighted by a recent visit with a horse called "Fancy." She was always very polite and loving to her family and many, many friends. Oh my, how we will dearly miss this very lovely lady.

She is survived by her son, Embry Bruce and daughter-in-law Patricia Tipton of Springfield, Ohio; daughter, Dorothy and son-in-law Harry Scutt of Wyoming; one grandson, Brian (Jeanne) Cuthrell of Georgia; four granddaughters, Lee (Russ) Smith of Wyoming, Kathy (Warren) Frebel, Susan (Kim) Perez and Nancy (Bill) Arrieta all of Colorado; 12 great-grandchildren, Alexander, Karli and Olivia Cuthrell of Georgia; Erin (Tom) Arnold, Alyssa and Nathan Smith all of Wyoming; Jocelyn (Joe) Palinek of Maryland, Hannah and Spencer Frebel, Joel Perez, Anthony and Samuel Arrieta, all of Colorado; four great-great-granddaughters, Jenna, Jayci and Jillian Palinek all of Maryland and Sophia Arnold of Wyoming; numerous very special nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Mary Nangle. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Embry and Bessie T. (Alexander) Park of Richmond, Kentucky; her husband of 52 years Zena Bruce Tipton; three sisters, Lucille Trumbo, Lena Park and Blanche Tipton; one great-grandson, Alexander Perez; and numerous very special aunts and uncles. Sue Bess would now lovingly say to all, "toodle-le-do."
