Robert C. Tooker


Robert C. "Bob" Tooker, 87, of Springfield, died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, November 27, 2008 in the Springfield Masonic Community. He was the last member of his family.

He was born in Vermillion County, Indiana on November 23, 1921 the son of Lon and Bertha (Perkins) Tooker. He retired in 1987 from International Truck and Engine after 20 years of service. He was a 1939 graduate of Plattsburg High School and was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Infantry 88th Division in Italy.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Carol (Hamilton), whom he married July 24, 1942; two children, Jeannie (Ronald) Dirlam of Springfield and James (Sarah) Tooker of Eugene, Oregon; three grandchildren, Christopher (Marla) Dirlam, Susan Fain all of Springfield and Jessica Tooker of Eugene, Oregon; four great grandchildren, Cody and Ryan Fain and Nathan and Elizabeth Dirlam and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lena Peck and three brothers, Ralph, Floyd and Lowell Tooker.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Michael McKee, Candy Rinehart, CNP and to the entire staff of Springfield Masonic Community for their loving care and kindness given to Bob and his family. May God Bless all of you.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Cemetery, South Charleston, with Chaplain Bruce Vincent officiating. Burial will follow.
