Robert L. Thaxton


Robert L. Thaxton, 85, of Springfield, passed away at 6:10 AM Sunday, September 28, 2008 in Vila Springfield.

He was born March 18, 1923 in Mt. Olivet, Kentucky the son of N. R. and Emma (Osborn) Cumbers. Mr. Thaxton was a member of the Maiden Lane Church of God, the V. F. W. Post 1031, and the Union Local 402. He was retired form International Harvester following 37½ years of service and was a Veteran of the United States Army during W. W. II.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years; Eleanor (Wayt) Thaxton, two children; Dianna (Gary) Stanley and Robert S. (Carolyn) Thaxton, Springfield, six grandchildren; Chris (Amy Beth) Stanley, Kimberly (Shane) Long, Nikki Stanley, Rob Thaxton, Elizabeth (Nick) Cates, Corinne Thaxton, great grandchildren; Cody and Austin Stanley, Maddie and Abbie Long, step great grandchildren; Jacob and Jordan Turner and Andrew Dalton, one brother; Clinton (Joan) Thaxton, Hudson, Florida and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother James Thaxton, a sister Hartzell Thaxton and his parents.

Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Fiorini officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
