Warren G. Smith


Warren G. Smith, 87, of Springfield, died Friday December 12, 2008 in Oakwood Village. He was born March 23, 1921 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, the son of Homer Smith and Beulah (Johnson) Smith Moon.

He attended the Hillside Avenue Church of God. He graduated from Plattsburg High School class of 1939. Warren served his country with the United States Navy during World War II and Korean Conflict. He retired from Maine Central Railroad in 1983. Warren enjoyed his listening to his CD collection, gardening, feeding birds, collectibles, his friends and family. He enjoyed the last six months making new friends at Oakwood Retirement Village.

Survivors include daughter Bonnie Nathanson and her partner Rob Stone of Portland, Maine; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Kathy Smith of Windham, Maine; sister and brother-in-law, Arretta Mae (Moon) and Lawrence Green of Urbana; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-father; first wife Josephine and second wife Audrey; two sons, Warren Jr. and Bruce; daughter Patricia and brother Robert Earl.

Celebration of Warrens life will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Oakwood Village, 1500 Villa Road. Burial will be held at a later date in Brooklawn Cemetery in Portland, Maine.

The family is being served by LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
