William R. Saunders


William R. Saunders, "Uncle Bill", went to heaven, to be with his wife Pat, October 24, 2007.

He was born in Springfield, Ohio March 28, 1920 to the late Robert Meade and Ida Effie (Allen) Saunders.

Bill served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII and in 1946 the Army of Occupation, he was stationed in Germany. He married his "child bride" Patricia Ann (Demint) Saunders February 12, 1947. Uncle Bill retired as Superintendent of the Clark County Children's Home in 1984.

As a young man he was involved in Boy Scouts, the YMCA serving as a counselor at Camp Evergreen. He was also involved with the Cross Country Team at Springfield High School, where he graduated from in 1938. He attended Ohio Wesleyan College before WWII and graduated from Ohio University in 1948.

Bill served his community as a Cub Scout Troop Leader, 4-H advisor, member of the Health & Welfare League, and the Learning Disabilities Association. He was a member of the Pleasant Harmony Garage and the Plattsburg United Church of Christ.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, son James and his loving wife, Pat.

He is survived by his daughter Mary Ellen Saunders Schlemmer, son David Russell Saunders, granddaughters Molly and Amanda Schlemmer, sister Betty Evans, nephews Frederick and John Evans.

As were his wishes Bill's body will be cremated and interred at Rose Hill Burial Park. A memorial service will be held at Plattsburg United Church of Christ, 1715 South Urbana-Lisbon Rd. on December 27, 2007, at 4:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund at Plattsburg United Church of Christ PO Box 699 South Charleston, OH 45368.
