Thelma Mae Streber


Thelma Mae Streber, 85 of Springfield went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 27, 2009 in the Dayview Care Center, New Carlisle. She was born in Springfield, Ohio on October 7, 1923, the daughter of Harry Franklin and Ada Mae (Hoke) Steele.

Thelma was a 1947 graduate of the Springfield City School of Nursing and of Wittenberg University. She was a registered nurse and the 3:00-11:00 PM Nursing Supervisor at Community Hospital retiring in 1989 after 40 years of service. Thelma was a member of Trinity Missionary Church, where she was involved with the card ministry, women's group, former Sunday school teacher, and other boards at the church. She was also very active with the Community Hospital School of Nursing Alumni. Thelma was a wonderful caregiver to many people over the years, from taking them to their doctor's appointments, taking them out to eat, or talking to them on the phone either daily or weekly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph K. Streber, brothers Howard H. Steele, Harley F. Steele, and J.A. Steele.

Her survivors include one sister Alma L. Gracy, three brothers and two sisters in law Harold E. Steele, Arthur E. (Marjorie) Steele, and Wilbert R. (Jessie) Steele all of New Carlisle, numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 3-6 PM in the RICHARDS, Raff & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME and one hour prior at the church. A celebration of Thelma's life will be Monday at 11:00 AM in the Trinity Missionary Church 3525 E. National Road, Springfield with Rev. Warren Banks officiating. Burial to follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions are requested to the Community Hospital School of Nursing Scholarship Fund.
