Stanley C. Shafer


Stanley C. Shafer, 89, of Springfield died on December 23, 2008.

He was born January 24, 1919 in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Stan was a decorated veteran of the United States Army Air Corps as a pilot in Burma - China - India theatre during World War II. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in chemistry and business. Stan served as the administrator of the Yellow Springs Clinic for 20 years. He oversaw the construction of the Yellow Springs Clinic and the Springfield Medical and Surgical Center. He was a member of Rotary, Community Hospital Board of Directors, Indiana University Alumni Association and the United States Air Force Museum. Stan was an avid fan of Indiana University basketball and football.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Joan (Cox) Shafer; one daughter, Sharon Funk of Indianapolis; two sons, S. Timothy Shafer, D.O. of Beavercreek and Shaun S. Shafer, M.D. of Laramie, Wyoming; three grandchildren, Whitney York and Adam York of Bloomington, Indiana and Michelle Shafer.

There was a private family memorial.

The family is being served by LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
