Robert F. Steinmetz

Rev. Robert F. Steinmetz, 93, of Springfield went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday May 21, 2008. He was born November 22, 1914.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. and Dolly Steinmetz; three sisters, Irma, Ruby and Winifred; one brother, Ervin Steinmetz; two grandchildren, Jill and Ricky Steinmetz; and Daisy, his beloved wife of 71 years, who passed away on December 7, 2007.

Pastor Bob, as many of his friends called him, loved to hunt and fish; but most of all, God made him fisher of men. Hundreds of souls have found peace with God because of Brother Steinmetz's passion for lost souls. During the 54 years of his ministry he was Senior Pastor of four Church of God congregations. After retiring from serving fulltime pastoral service, he served eleven congregations as Interim Pastor and as a guest speaker in many congregations. Every time he preached after retiring, Pastor Bob thought it would be his last sermon and in April of 2008, he preached his 336th and final sermon. Pastor Bob loved the Church of God people and was loved in return. In February of 2008, he was given the honor of Senior Emeritus. Thank God for his caring and keeping love.

He is survived by his loving family; son, Richard (Ginny) Steinmetz of Springfield; daughter, Janet Smith of North Muskegon, MI; nine grandchildren; Joyce (Joel) Swords, Judy (Doug) Arnold, Jeff (Cheryl) Steinmetz, Shelley Townsend all of Springfield, Robert (Tonya) Steinmetz of Cincinnati, Chris (Debra) Smith of Delafield, WI, Brian Smith of Muskegon, MI, Stephanie (Tim) Weaver of Cedar Falls, IA and J. Stuart Smith of Albuquerque, NM; sixteen great grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer) Arnold, Matthew Arnold, Nina and Angie Hermasillo, Jarrod and Megan Swords, Jessica, Brandon, and Andrew Townsend, Sonya and Alec Smith, Jennifer, Rebecca and Amy Weaver, Emylia Smith and Autom Steinmetz; five great-great grandchildren, Zachary and Noah Payton, Jonah and Nicholas Arnold and Xavier White; one sister, Marjorie Roberts; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pastor Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Thank you to all who have touched his life in some way.

Visitation will be held from 2-4PM & 6-8PM Tuesday May 27, 2008 in the JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS Funeral Home. Service will be held 11AM with one hour prior viewing Wednesday May 28, 2008 in the Northside Church of God, Springfield, with Pastor Gary Swogger officiating. Burial in South Salem Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: The Northside Church of God, 3705 Middle Urbana Rd., Springfield, OH 45502
