Ralph Douglas Sellman


Ralph Douglas "Doug" Sellman, 79, of Springfield, passed away at 10:10 PM Sunday, December 28, 2008 in Community Hospital. He was born January 4, 1929, in Springfield, the son of James William and Ethel (Thornburg) Sellman.

Mr. Sellman was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, the F. O. P. and the V. F. W. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy during W. W. II and was also in the Merchant Marines. Mr. Sellman was retired from Thomas Kapel and the Clark County Sheriff's Department where he served 10 years as a Deputy.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Alexander) Sellman, four children; Cynthia Sellman, Jefferson City, Missouri, Tamara (Dale) Slusser, Ralph Douglas Sellman Jr., Springfield, and Regina (Scott) Mingus, The Plains, Ohio, five grandchildren; Levi Wolfe, Christopher (Krystol) Slusser, Amanda Slusser, Emily Mingus and Alison Mingus, two sisters; Alice (Robert) Crabtree and Irene DePriest, Springfield, one brother; John Sellman, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister; Alma Massie, three brothers; James, Charles and Earl Sellman and his parents.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor David Yingling officiating. Entombment, with Military Honors, will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.
