Richard D. Seaman


Richard D. Seaman, 83, of New Carlisle, Ohio passed away Saturday May 3, 2008 at Mercy St. Johns Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born October 29, 1924 in Peebles, Ohio the son of the late Earl Seaman and Emily Jones.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired from H&H Machine after 35 years. He was past Commander at V.F.W. Post 9966, and was a member of the American Legion Post 286. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Arthur and Ruth Bowman, grandson, John D. Patton and great grandson, John E. Patton.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Shirley; sons, Mark Seaman of Florida, Jerry (Kim) Patton of Sunbury, Ohio; daughters, Carol (Jack) Trissel of New Carlisle, Sally (Bob) Swearingen of New Carlisle, Donna (Roger) Diller of Springfield, Ohio, Carla (Mike) Harrison of New Carlisle; a sister, Pam (Nelson) Thompson of Hillsboro, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Danny (Jane) Beatty of South Carolina, Alan Beatty of Huber Heights, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, and many more loving family and friends.

He wanted to give a special thank you to his wonderful step-children who blessed him with his final trip to the Smokey's. Special thanks to St. John's nurses and aides on the fourth floor and Springfield Mercy Hospice with special thank you to Katie, Tami and Jane.

A gathering of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday May 7, 2008 at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Mercy Hospice, 1343 N. Fountain, Springfield, OH 45504.
