Madge Steele
Madge (Martin) Steele, 87, of Springfield died Friday, March 6, 2009 in Eaglewood Care Center following an extended illness. She was born July 22, 1921 in Knoxville, Tennessee the daughter of Willis and Belle (Poole) Martin.
Mrs. Steele was a 1939 graduate of Springfield High School and a longtime member of First United Church of Christ. She had worked for the William Bayley Company and the Law Firm of Corey, Durphy, Martin and Browne and then served as a volunteer at Community Hospital for many years.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Douglas W. and Robin Steele of Ashford, Connecticut; three grandsons Christopher and Andrew Steele of Des Moines, Iowa and Nicholas Steele of Columbia, Connecticut; a brother and sister-in-law Fred and Joyce Martin of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters Rosella Martin of Springfield and Judith Harris of Bradenton, Florida; two nieces Michelle Martin and Denise White; one nephew Tom Martin.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM. in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Gail Eastwood officiating.
The family is being served by the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Steele's name to the American Alzheimer's Association.
