Marie Steele


Marie (Riffell) Steele, slipped away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on October the 30th at her son's home in Fort Wayne, IN. Marie was born on December the 15th, 1917 in Darke County, OH.

Her early and formative years were spent in the Englewood, Ohio vicinity. Following her marriage to Howard Steele on May the 25th, 1939 Marie spent most of her adult life in the New Carlisle area. Marie attended Marion College (Indiana Wesleyan University). Marie was a homemaker. She was a long time member of the New Carlisle Missionary Church where she was active in women's ministries and Sunday School. She will always be remembered as a sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Osa Riffell, her husband Howard Steele who for many years was an administrator in the Tecumseh School District and a sister-in-law, Olive Riffell.

She is survived by her two brothers, Ralph Riffell, and Rev. Franklin Riffell (wife Betty) from Greenville, OH. She is also survived by her son Rev. Gerald Steele (wife Miriam) from Fort Wayne, IN and a daughter Norma Hayslip (husband Stephan). She leaves a legacy of five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Marie's viewing will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 3rd, 2008 at the New Carlisle Missionary Church, 111 N Adams St., New Carlisle, OH followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard McIntosh officiating.

Memorials may be made to the New Carlisle Missionary Chruch or to Gideons International (Springfield Camp).
