Martha Jean Schartz


Martha Jean Schartz, 89, of Springfield died at 12:30 p.m. May 9, 2008 in the Ohio Masonic Home.

She was born October 6, 1918 in Springfield the daughter of Hugh and Anna (Ainge) Garrity.

She owned and operated along with her husband the Clock Café for thirty years. Later she worked in the Coffee Shop at Mercy Medical Center for several years. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and a former member of St. Mary's Church. She also was a member of VFW #1031 Auxiliary, Altar Rosary Sodality and a 1937 graduate of Catholic Central High School.

Survivors include her two sons Fr. Kenneth E. Schartz, Xenia, OH and Kevin F. Schartz, Springfield; two grandchildren Dylan Schartz and Emily Schartz; several nieces and nephews including Jim and Barb Garrity, Tom and Annette Garrity all of Piqua, Ohio, Charles and Judy Schartz, Springfield, Martha and Richard Poland, Cincinnati, OH and Barbara and Don Tootle, Columbus, OH and several great nieces and nephews and very special friends Judy Kuntz, Anne Shoup, Theresa Lehmenkuler, Karen Leon, Anne Elesner and Lucille Krumholtz.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis F. in 1977 and a brother Paul Garrity.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Conroy Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bridget School Endowment Fund.
