Michael W. Schaefer


Michael W. Schaefer, 74, of Springfield passed away peacefully Monday evening, December 22, 2008 in his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was born May 8, 1934 in Casstown, Ohio, the son of Dewey and Jesse (McClintock) Schaefer.

Mike was a foster parent for 34 years to over 100 beloved children. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his caring wife of 54 years, Janet L. (Reese) Schaefer; five daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret Daily, Karen (Ray) Haynes, Melissa (Phillip) Ehrle, Jennifer Schaefer and Genny (Michael) Youngerman all of Springfield; one son, Michael D. Schaefer of New Carlisle, Ohio; five grandchildren and spouses, Mary (Rick) Massie, Mandy (Dean) Wilson, Brian (Jennifer) Haynes, Misty (Bill) Shaffer and Brandy Dill (Brett Dewitt); ten great grandchildren, Kaylea, Rebbecca, Brittanee Massie, Joshua, Destanee, Bethanie, Zackary, Jacob Wilson, Logan Shaffer and Brennen Dewitt; four sisters, Edwina Ward, Viola Ward, Nancy Hinkle and Margaret Karnhem; four brothers, Vernon, Ernie, David and Eldon Schaefer and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Genny Youngerman; brother, Paul Schaefer and great grandson, Joshua Wilson.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, December 26, 2008 from 11a.m. to 1p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Richard McIntosh and Pastor Alan Cain officiating.

Burial will follow in the Vale Cemetery.
