She was born May 13, 1915, in Fayette County, Ohio, the daughter of Homer and Ethel (Sheley) Persinger. She was a graduate of Jeffersonville High School and Wilmington College. Maxine, as she was known by friends and family, taught primary grades at Ross Township School in Greene County for eighteen years and at Reid School in Clark County for twenty five years. During her tenure as church organist, she played for over 90 wedding ceremonies, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. Maxine never knew a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and had many, many cherished friends. Her cheerful, optimistic attitude carried her through many difficult times and endeared her to those who knew her.
