James J. Spradlin


James J. Spradlin, 87, of Enon died Monday, October 13, 2008 in Miami Valley Hospital.

He was born in Elkhorn City, KY on September 22, 1921, the son of John Charles and Florence (Owens) Spradlin. James retired from the U S Air Force with 21 years of service, fighting in World War II and the Korean War. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he went to work for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare retiring after 15 years of service as an accountant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret Ann (Brennan) Spradlin; brothers Hubert, Edward, Roderick, and Shorty Spradlin; sisters Beatrice Brown, Dorothy Knott, and Janice Spradlin; and granddaughter JoHanna Spradlin.

James has left to cherish his memory; one daughter and son in law Jan (Tim) Greenwood of Fairborn; three sons and two daughters in law John (Kathy) Spradlin of Cherryvale, KS, James J. Spradlin, Jr. of Silver Springs, MD, Patrick (Claudia) Spradlin of Cedarville; step son Joe Strassberger of Gaithersburg, MD; two brothers and sisters in law Kenneth (Lynne) Spradlin of Johnstown, CO and Charles (Lois) Spradlin of Elkhorn City, KY; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of James's life will be Thursday at 2:00 PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME with Rev. Eric Mounts of Southgate Baptist Church officiating. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to services. Burial to follow in Vale Cemetery.
