Ira E. Sowards


Ira E. Sowards, 88, of Springfield, went to God's resting place on Thursday September 20, 2007 in his residence. He was born April 23, 1919 in Pike County, Kentucky, the son of Robert Lee and Pricy M. (Son) Sowards.

Ira was a member of Old Regular Baptist House of Prayer Church in Beavercreek, Ohio. He was retired business agent for Labor Union 216 where he was a member for over fifty years. Ira was a self-taught man.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Richard Clark of Dublin, Geri and Roy Caudill of Pickerington, Shareen and Bob Jenkins of Springfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Mary Sowards of Springfield, Larry and Kathleen Sowards of Springfield; son-in-law Dennis Cornelius of Felicity, Ohio; eighteen grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nina Sowards, daughter Iris Cornelius and two brothers and a sister.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday September 24, 2007 in House of Prayer, 1220 Wallaby Drive, Beavercreek, Ohio, with Pastor Dee Osborne and Pastor Paul Matthews, officiating. Burial will be in Lawrenceville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Community Mercy Hospice Fund, 1343 N. Fountain Blvd, Springfield, Ohio 45504 or German Township Fire and EMS, 3940 Lawrenceville Drive, Springfield, Ohio 45504.
