George O. Smith


George O. Smith, 86, of South Vienna, formerly of South Charleston, passed away Wednesday evening, September 5, 2007 in his son's home in West Virginia.

He was born May 4, 1921 in Circleville, Ohio the son of Clifford and Clara Florence (Compton) Smith. Mr. Smith had been a farmer for many years and was retired form Morris Bean. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a mechanic. He loved hunting, camping, fishing and horses. He was a member of the Big Bucks of America and a past member of the Old Timers Club.

Survivors include his 12 children: Gary ( Mary) Smith, Springfield, Kenny (Melinda) Smith, Xenia, David (Judy) Smith, Port William, Linda (Joe) Reisinger, South Charleston, Steven (Kay ) Smith, Jeffersonville, Tom Smith, Westerville, Cheryl Smith, South Charleston, Mark (Becky) Smith, Mechanicsburg, Doug (Kylene) Smith, Terry (Amy) Smith, Springfield, Greg (Karen) Smith, Catawba, Beth (Ric) Harting, Springfield, 31Grandchildren, 32 Great Grand Children, one Great Great Grandchild, 2 step Grand Children and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Helen L. Smith on March 14, 2004. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage having been married September 5, 1944. Also preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Kathryn Smith, a brother Dale Smith and three Great Grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Mr. Smith's family will receive friends from 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM Monday in the Northside Baptist Church, 2425 Derr Road, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration in Dayton, Ohio. Arrangements are being handled by the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
