Frederick I. Stauffer


Frederick I. Stauffer, 74, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 in his residence following several weeks of serious illness.

He was born on July 20, 1933 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, the son of Fred and Clara Stauffer.

He graduated from Hazleton Senior High School, Class of 1951, and served four years in the United States Naval Reserves. Fred graduated from Columbia Union College in Washington, D.C. (President of his class) and Potomac University in Washington, D.C. with a Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology. He interned at the Wooster State Mental Hospital in Wooster, Ohio, Harding Psychiatric Hospital in Worthington, Ohio, and the Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Stauffer served as a District Pastor in the Seventh Day Adventist Church for twelve years serving churches in Wooster, Medina, and Springfield, Ohio, before becoming a Probation Officer in the Criminal Justice System in 1972. He graduated from the Ohio Peace Officers Academy and became an instructor in the Ohio Peace Officer's Training Academy Program and has been a commissioned Clark County Sheriff's Deputy since 1972. He has served under seven judges in the Adult Probation Department of the Springfield Municipal Court since March of 1972. He was a member of the International Social Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta and served on the Board of Trustees at the Wittenberg chapter for many years.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, June A. Stauffer, a son, Brad Stauffer of Dayton, and sister, Jane Krieger (Arthur) of Sugarloaf, Pennsylvania.

The family wishes to thank his Hospice nurse Elois and other caregivers at Community Mercy Hospice for their loving care for Fred in his final days.

A Memorial Service celebrating Fred's life will be held on Saturday, July 5th at 10:00 a.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Private burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 1343 N. Fountain Blvd., Springfield, OH 45504.
