Elizabeth Herzog Schutte


Elizabeth Herzog Schutte, 87, of Springfield died at 7:57 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 in the residence of her daughter and son-in-law. She was born in Springfield on February 21, 1921 the daughter of Henry and Katharina (Becht) Herzog.

She had been employed by Hertz Aquarium for a number of years. She was a member of St. Bernard Church, former member the church choir and the CL of C. Elizabeth was a loving and outgoing woman with a witty personality and loved to work crossword puzzles and play cards with family and friends.

Survivors include her five children and spouses, Kathryn and Vincent Bednorz, Richmond, IN, Susan and Larry Gunter, with whom she resided, Daniel and Bonnie Schutte, Springfield, David and Bobbie Schutte, Terre Haute, OH, Mary Grace and Steve Gnau, Kettering, OH; twelve grandchildren and spouses, Maureen (Mark) Bednorz Nadolski, Megan Schutte, Kerry Schutte, Michael Schutte, Rachel Schutte, Stephen (Jennifer) Hixon, Jeff Bednorz, James Bednorz, Katie Gnau, Melissa Gnau, Laura Gnau and Carly Gnau; great granddaughter, Molly Elizabeth Hixon and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 1st husband Arthur Schutte in 1968, 2nd husband Walter Penny, grandsons, Michael and Daniel Hixon.

Elizabeth is the last surviving member of her family.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to John Herzog, Barbara Herzog and Fr. Paul Hurst for attending to all of their mothers spiritual needs over the past several years.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday in the Conroy Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard Church. The St. Bernard Women's Committee will serve a luncheon in the school following the services at the cemetery.
