Dane Nelson Stephens


Dane Nelson Stephens, 83 of Springfield, passed away on April 20, 2008 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center - Fountain Blvd. Campus after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 17, 1925 to Roy and Josie Stephens of Jamestown, Ohio.

Dane was married to Jeanette Ann (Schmidt) of Upper Sandusky, Ohio on September 6, 1953. They celebrated over 49 years of marriage until her passing in March of 2003. He grew up as part of a large and loving family with brothers Raymond and Donald, and sisters Sue, Mayme, Lorraine, and Clarice Jean. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Second World War in the Pacific. After his discharge, he attended Wilmington University, getting his degree in Business Administration. He was employed by Columbia Gas Company until his retirement in 1987. He turned down many promotions because he loved the area. He touched many lives in the Springfield area. He was a member of the Rotary Club, as well as the Springfield Country Club.

He is survived by his sisters Lorraine Brown of Pittsburgh, PA and Clarice Jean Palmer of Fairborn, OH; son Thomas L. Stephens and his wife Kimberly A. Stephens of Niles, MI; daughter and son-in-law Jayne M. Mellott and Othman Asslan of Springfield, OH; grandchildren Jillian C. Mellott of Springfield, OH, and Kyle A. Stephens of Kalamazoo, MI; great granddaughter Jeanette Ann Jackson of Springfield, OH, and Kyle's mother Faith M. Stephens of Kalamazoo, MI.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11 - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2008 in the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1801 St. Paris Pike, Springfield, Ohio with services following visitation at 1:00 p.m. He will be buried at Ferncliff Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, as a tribute to his wife Jeanette, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2808 Reading Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45206.

The family is being served by the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
