Dorothy M. Shaw


Dorothy M. "Dottie" Shaw, 86, of Springfield, died Monday morning, May 5, 2008 in Alterra Sterling House. She was born in Mechanicsburg, Ohio on July 5, 1921 the daughter of Harry and Leona (Umbenhauer) Bane.

She was a 1921 graduate of Springfield High School and retired as a buyer from Wren's Department Store after over 32 years of dedicated service. Dottie had a loving, warm spirit and always greeted everyone with a smile and a hug.

Survivors include her two children and spouses, Larry and Charlotte Shaw and Trena and John Leffel Sr., all of Springfield; six grandchildren, Shelley Smith, Trisha (Mark) Smith, Gretchen (Bryan) Elliott, Michael (Katy) Shaw, and John J. (Jenny) Leffel Jr., all of Springfield and Shannon (Terrance) Leffel-Small of San Antonio, Texas; sixteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Betty (Curtis) Sweeney of Bonifay, Florida; a brother, Harry Lee Bane of Miamisburg; her many dear friends with the Cardinal Squares square dance club including her special partner, Jim McDonough. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of over 50 years, John R. Shaw in 1994; an infant daughter, Shelley Lynn Shaw; a sister, Leah A. Mitchell; and a brother, William Leroy Bane.

The family wishes to thank Teresa Newsome and the staff at Alterra Sterling House for their loving care for Dottie.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Rev. Bryan Elliott officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.
