Bernice R. Stephens


Bernice R. Stephens, 91, now residing at her new home with Jesus Christ Our Savior, passed away peacefully at her residence with her daughters at her side on September 12, 2008. Bernice was born August 2, 1917 in Vulcan, West Virginia to Sarah and Richard Carter.

Bernice was a life-long mother and wife who treasured and loved her family. She will always be remembered for her love of football and Big Time wrestling as well as her culinary skills. Even her great grandchildren lament the loss of "the best fruit cobblers ever" and "the best rolls".

She is survived by two daughters; Barbara Stephens (Joseph) Cox, of College Corner, Ohio and Annette Marie Woods of Springfield, Ohio, three grandchildren; Stephanie Cox Batson, of Chicago, Illinois, Joseph Lloyd Cox, IV, of Ellicott City, Maryland and Stephen Leon Bobo of Dayton, Ohio. Bernice was also blessed with five great granddaughters; Denise Bobo, Hannah and Noa Batson, JayCee and Jalynn Cox and one great grandson; Joseph Lloyd Cox V.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; James E. Stephens Jr., two brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be held in the Robert C. Henry Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 from 11 a.m.-12 noon with services immediately following the visitation. Interment will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Community-Mercy Hospital Hospice.
