Thelma M. Riley
Thelma M. Riley, 87, of Springfield, died Monday morning, January 19, 2009 in Springfield Regional Medical Center, East High Campus.
She was born in Enon, Ohio on January 22, 1921 the daughter of Edward and Millie (Shellabarger) Dunn.
Thelma was a member of Phidelia Rebekah Lodge 12 and Order of the Eastern Star, Aldora Chapter, Xenia. She loved to cook and bake cakes and decorated cakes for over forty years. Thelma won many ribbons at the Clark County Fair for her canned goods and baked goods. During this past year, her recipes were assembled into "Thelma, Family and Friends Cookbook". Her greatest joy was found in doing things for others.
She is survived by her four children and spouses, Danita and Bob Ferryman of Springfield, Constance Jones of Florida, Ken and Cindy Riley of Canby, Oregon and Doug and Ginny Riley of Fort Collins, Colorado; eleven grandchildren, Pamela (Jeff) Esterline, Beverly (James) Harris, Rich Jacks, Ken Riley, Mari (Dave) Latimer, Kyle (Jenny) Riley, Sarah (Ty) Spoon, Beth (Ron) Lowry, Chris Riley, Troy (Stacy) Ferryman, and Dara Ferryman; nine great grandchildren, Joshua (Ashlee) Esterline, Beverly Esterline, Cody and Jacob Riley, Jake Harris, Nick DeSantis, Brynn and Ezra Spoon, and Ethan Ferryman; and three great-great granddaughters, Jasmyn and Serenity Esterline and Alexis Byrge. Also surviving are three brothers, Sam (Wilma) Dunn of Brooksville, Florida, Bill (Marjorie) Dunn of Lake Wales, Florida and Eldon "Abe" Foland of Russells Point, Ohio; a step-sister, Betty Jane Dunn of Springfield; two cousins, Duke (Hazel) Bruney and Elwood Bruney; and many nieces and nephews.
Thelma was known as Mom, Grandma, Grammie, and Aunt Thelma to many people outside of her family, including Jean Hill of Pataskala, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 67 years, Kenneth W. Riley in 2006; two sisters, Augusta Dunn and Doris L. Bellar; two brothers, Charles E. and Edward N. Dunn; and a grandson, Steven Jacks.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Eastern Star services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Mohr of Enon United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Enon Cemetery.
