Shaun L. Rutherford


Shaun L. "Smokie the Bear" Rutherford, 62, of Springfield died Thursday, March 6, 2008 in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Springfield, Ohio on February 10, 1946, the son of Charles Henry and Vera Kathryn (Brecht) Rutherford.

He was a graduate of South High School. Shaun had been employed as a butcher with Bob Evans Farms from 1972-1994. He was a volunteer football coach for Northwestern from 1982-1987. Shaun served his country in the US Air Force as a Sergeant in the Strategic Air Command.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Shaun has left to cherish his memory, his wife Doris D. (Craig) Rutherford, whom he married October 10, 1987; mother Vera K. Fuller; one son and daughter in law Ronald Duke & Debbie Rutherford; one sister Cindy Rutherford all of Springfield; two brothers Pete & Terri Rutherford of Pensacola, FL and Joe & Yvonne Fuller of Clovis, CA; three grandchildren Wyatt, Jamie, and Jake Rutherford; special friend Cathy Bentley; several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of friends and family will be Monday from 5-8 PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the memorial home with Rev. Gladys Williams officiating. Burial to follow in the Veterans Section of Ferncliff Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the Cardiac Nurses at Mercy Medical Center for their compassionate care of Shaun.
