James R. "Dick" Rakestraw


James R. "Dick" Rakestraw, 75, of Springfield died at 11:24 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center.

He was born June 27, 1931 in Mansfield, Ohio the son of James Dallas and Erma Lucille (Rush) Rakestraw. He had been employed as a photo engraver for over thirty years working several years for Printing Preparations of Dayton and retired in 1991. Prior to that time he worked for Springfield Gravure for a number of years. Jim was a US Navy Korean War veteran.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Mike and Amy Rakestraw, daughter-in-law Andrea Rakestraw-Carter all of Springfield; seven grandchildren including Michael, Taylor, Ryan, Dustin, Matt, Jimmy and Misty and a number of great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Dianne and Darrell Howard of Springfield and a niece Blythe Anne (Husan) Howard-Chou; special friend Mary Johnston, Springfield. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley A. in 2000, two sons Steve in 1999 and James D. in 2003.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the Conroy Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Mike Surgenor officiating. Entombment will be in Ferncliff Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
