Peter Quinn


Peter Quinn, 83, of Edgecomb, Maine died September 9, 2008.

He was born October 9, 1924 in Washington D.C. the son of Cyril Joseph Columbus and Henrietta (Dimond) Quinn, attended the Allen-Stevenson School in New York City and graduated from The Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth, R.I. After three months at Brown University, upon turning 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served 3 years, including time in the South Pacific. Upon his discharge, he returned to Brown University and graduated in 1950.

Mr. Quinn married Sophie Dallas Bigelow in 1950, worked for Honeywell Corp. until 1960, then joined J. & W. Seligman Co. until his retirement in 1983. Upon retiring, he and Sophie moved to Edgecomb, where he became active in his community by serving on several town, corporate and community boards of directors, and was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Boothbay Harbor. He enjoyed history and genealogy.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Sophie (Bigelow) Quinn of Edgecomb; children Ellen Quinn and her husband Quentin Lawson of Washington D.C., Louise Quinn of Santa Fe, N.M., Emily Quinn of Boise, ID., Peter Quinn and his wife Carolina of New York, NY., and Arabella Quinn and her husband Timothy Boland of Mechanicsville, MD.; two grandchildren Keelin Ryan and Emma Ryan and their father Mark Ryan all of Boise, ID.; and a brother-in-law Theodore H. Bigelow of Pittsboro, NC.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM. in Ferncliff Cemetery. The family is being served by the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME.
