Myron (Mong) Nicewaner


Myron (Mong) Nicewaner, a son of Elmo and Hazel Nicewaner, died Friday, April 10, 2009 in his residence with those who loved him. Myron was born in Springfield, Ohio, on Jan. 3, 1939 and worked for many years at Springfield News-Sun, retiring as Director of Operations on Feb. 28, 2001, or about that time. During this time, the newspaper was just that--a real newspaper. He resigned a few years ago from being a Deacon at First Christian Church, where he attended for around 65 years, having been going there during the time of Floyd Pence, and baptized there at age 19 by John Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, or thereabouts, Sandy (Bartee); 2 daughters and 1 son, Tassi Raber, Angela (John) Reese, and Martin (Kathy) Nicewaner, all of Springfield; 7 grandchildren, Warren Jay (Jayboy) Nicewaner, Mallory (Malligator) Raber, Michael Nicewaner, Torey Raber, Joshua Nicewaner, Kristina (Neena) Davis, and Sarah Nicewaner, also all of Springfield; 1 great-grandchild, Breyanna Nicole Ward, of Springfield; 1 brother, Dallas, and wife, Sharon Rose; 2 sisters, Delores (Dori),and husband Marvin Phillips, and Sharon, and husband Tom Finch, also of Springfield; cousin, Sondra, and husband Rich Leonard; Kent (Hilda); Larry (Mac) McClure, and wife, Debbie, also of Springfield; uncle Norm McClure, and wife, Carol (Williamson); nephews, Bret (Shelley), Christian, Duane (Cheryl), all of Springfield, Mike (Janice), Tallahassee, Fla.; nieces, Beth (Mike) Claar, Springfield, Shelly (Todd) Altman, of (Somewhere in Florida), Holly (Andrew) Ortman (Somewhere Else), brothers in law Tom (Charlene) Tosi, Mike (Roxanne) Bartee, sister in law Stephanie (Stephen) Rhoades, Tennessee and special brother in law Mark (Lydia) Bartee, Virginia, A bunch of other cousins, uncles, aunts, people at GSOC and First Christian and other folks he knew, Gloria Speaks; Leonard Hall and wife, Lela, also of Springfield; and all the folks of The East End Neighborhood Association and other Kindred Friend Bruce Lemley, with whom Myron shared many of God's many miracles of beauty.

He was preceded in death by special friend Bill Speaks and both of his parents died before he did.

A gathering of everybody who wants to come will be at the Richards, Raff and Dunbar Memorial Home on East High Street on Monday April 13th, from 5 to 8 P.M. with the funeral being conducted by Mr. John Wilson and Mr. Marvin Phillips at First Christian Church, 3638 Middle Urbana Road at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, April 14th, with one hour visiting at 10 AM before funeral services. Per his request, the body will then be cremated, with the ashes distributed in a nearby body of water.
