Janis Florence Numbers


Janis Florence Numbers, 90, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2009 in Eaglewood Care Center. She was born in Springfield on March 19, 1918, the daughter of David E. and Imogene V. (Hunt) Shellabarger.

She was a 1936 graduate of Springfield High School, she graduated in 1939 and was an alumni member of the Community Hospital School of Nursing, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She retired after 20 some years as night nursing supervisor from the Ohio Masonic Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Numbers, Sr. in 1986, her parents, an infant sister, Jeanne Shellabarger, her sister and brother-in-law, Maxine L. and Richard D. Roberts, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph A., Jr. and Phyllis Numbers.

She is survived by her four children and spouses, Janolyn A. (Tom) Chase of Springfield, Jennifer K. (Richard) O'Brien of Narrowsburg, New York, Paul E., Jr. (Su) Numbers of Jacksonville, Florida and Jerron A. (Diana) Numbers and "daughter", Sally (Charles) Schreiber all of Springfield; ten grandchildren, Stephen M. (Heather) Chase, Shella I. (Gene) Howard, William and Bridget O'Brien, Nicole and Paul E. Numbers III, David and Dylan Numbers, Ryan (Erika) Schreiber and Emily Schreiber; five great grandchildren, Samantha, Zachary and Sean Thomas Chase and Maxwell and Mia Howard; nephew, David R. (Rita) Roberts and nephew and nieces, Richard, Joann and Debbie Numbers; great niece, Julianne (Tim) Shafer and their four daughters, and great nephew, Dr. Matthew (Elizabeth) Roberts and their two daughters.

Janis loved to play in her gardens and spent many happy times with her dogs, most recently being "Macy Gray". Her best of times were spent with her loving family and the many friends and neighbors she was blessed to have throughout her lifetime.

Friends may pay respects to the family on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in CONROY FUNERAL HOME where her funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday with Pastor John Pollock officiating. Burial will be in Enon Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Janice's memory to St. John's Lutheran Church, the Clark County Animal Welfare League or to the charity of one's choice. The family expresses their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. To and the entire staff at Eaglewood Care Center for the loving and compassionate care given to their mother.
