Robert D. Miller


Robert D. Miller, 77, of Springfield, passed into heavenly rest, Weds. April 23, 2008 after several weeks of illness.

He was born October 4, 1930 a son of Henry Miller and Odie (Caddell) Newson in Franklin Co.

He was a graduate of Linden McKinley High School in Columbus, a Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He and his stepfather ran Newson Insurance Agency for ten years. Robert worked as a groundskeeper at Reed Park Golf Course and for ten years with the Springfield School system where he retired from in January 2000. He was an inactive member of the First Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir for many years and served as Music Librarian for several years. He especially enjoyed kite flying in his younger days, and was a familiar site at Reed Park feeding ducks.

Robert is survived by his wife of 57 years Hazel Arlene (DeLong) Miller; six children, David of Englewood, FL, Gary of Springfield, Mark of Nyack, NY, Beth of Islamorada, FL, Stan (Laura)of Montgomery, AL, Paul (Rachel) of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, Joel Ryan, Rachel (Chris) Ryan, Megyn (Adam) Wilson, Jeffery Miller, Justin Miller, Urban Eisen Miller, Zoe Miller, Isaiah, Kurtis, Hannah Miller, and Samantha; five great-grandchildren, Ella, Antonio, Tannan, Luke and Sara; one brother, Joseph J. and Roselyn Miller and family; nieces and nephews, Mark and Janet Gerard, Judy Miller, Jimmy Miller, Jeffrey Miller, Matt and Brian Gerard, Sandi (Dennis) Shaw and children, Todd and Tara Van'der Zee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held 6 PM Monday April 28, 2008 in the JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS Funeral Home.
