James S. "Uncle Goofy" McBlane


James S. "Uncle Goofy" McBlane, 64 of Springfield died Saturday, December 22, 2007 in his residence.

He was born in Springfield, Ohio on August 6, 1943. Jim graduated from Springfield South High School in 1961, served in the U S Navy aboard the USS Goodrich from 1961 to 1964, and then earned his bachelor's degree from Central State University. Jim was a real estate broker for over 40 years. He was a member of Anthony Lodge #455 F & AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Temple, Elks Lodge # 51, Moose Lodge #536, Eagles Champion Aeries #397, and the Studebaker Drivers Club. Jim was proud to be affectionately known as "Uncle Goofy" by all his nieces, nephews, and a multitude of children everywhere.

Jim is survived by Cheryl, his bride of 33 years; sister Becky and Roger Braden; nephews Dane and Laura Braden, Todd and Kim Braden all of Branson, MO; sister Penny Ake of Springfield; brother Buddy and Eunice Dennis of Miami, FL; step mother Mary Jane McBlane; step sister Claudia and Ron Jones of Springfield; and step brother Sheldon King and Mary Ellen Davis of Colorado Springs, CO; nieces and nephews Sara, Allissa, Cullen, Kristen, Erin, Caleb, Michael, Alexis, Amy, Megan and great nieces and nephews Dana, Jared, Brandy, Dane, Cole, and Luke.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Evelyn Dennis and Sam McBlane.

The family would like to thank the staff on 2 South and 3 South at Community Hospital, Community Mercy Hospice, Comfort Keepers, and the wonderful caring staff at Heartland of Springfield.

A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 4-7PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME, with Masonic memorial services at 7:00PM. A memorial celebration of Jim's life will be held Thursday at 11:00AM in the memorial home with Pastor Kevin Moehn of New Hope Church officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Community-Mercy Hospice or the Shriner's Burn Hospital, Cincinnati.
