Dorothy Stewart "Dottie" Montei


Dottie Montei, 89, passed away on February 13, 2008. Born in Springfield on May 25, 1918, Dottie was the daughter of Roy and Elise (Gasser) Stewart, and was married for 55 years to Frank A. Montei, Jr., who died in 1997.

Dottie devoted herself to many organizations, most notably the Girl Scouts, in which she was active for over 36 years. She invested many years as well with Young Women's Mission and the Lagonda Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and served Covenant Presbyterian Church as an adult Sunday school teacher and a deacon. She remained committed to the Delta Gamma Sorority, helping with the local Wittenberg Chapter from time to time over the years. Dottie worked as a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center and had well over 500 hours of service.

She is survived by her three children, Randy Reid (husband, Arden) living in Austin, Texas; Stew (wife, Judy) from Springfield; and Bill (wife, Ellen) living in Madison, WI; she has nine grandchildren Beau Reid and Ashley Krutikov, Stewart, Jamie, Rachel and David Montei, Katie, Spencer and Will Montei,and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM. Saturday, February 16, 2008 with Rev. Raymond Stewart officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service in the Library Lounge of the church. Donations may be made to your favorite charity in her honor. The family is being served by the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME.
