David E. Mitchem


David E. Mitchem, 78, of Springfield, died at 9:35 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Miami Valley Hospital after a truck accident.

He was born January 11, 1930 in Springfield to John and Nellie (Hiatt) Mitchem.

He was employed over the years by Bolen Moving & Storage, Frigidaire-Moraine City, Springfield City Bus Line and retired from D&H Manufacturing after 33 years as a machine operator. He was in the U.S. Army in artillery from 1948-1952 and served in the Korean War from 1950-1951. His hobbies included fishing bowling and servicing vending machines.

Survivors include four children and spouses: Dave and Holly (Schuler) Mitchem and their four children, Dustyn, Jardyan, Dominic and Jace with whom he has been living with for almost seven years, Christine & Jerry Mansfield, Barbara & Tom McElroy and Angela Robinson; his beloved dog, Bo Bo; one brother, Richard & Ruth Mitchem; one sister Thelma & Paul Hyatt; three step-sons and one step daughter, Lofton & Charlene Ewers, Rick Brown, Charles & Sara Ewers and Dorothy & Buddy Casey; 24 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one great great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Rosemary (Satterly) in 1991, his second wife Gloria (Manshack) in 1998, a brother, John L. Mitchem, Jr. and two sisters, Nellie Lewis and Mary Ann Layne.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Dale Holzbauer officiating. Friends may call two hours prior. Cremation will follow the service.
