Dewey A. McClure
Dewey A. McClure, 85, a lifetime resident of Springfield passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 in Community Hospital.
He was born October 2, 1922 the son of Leo H., Sr. and Nellie Mae (Snyder) McClure.
Dewey enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps four weeks after Pearl Harbor and served as an Aircraft Mechanic in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant following the completion of WWII. Dewey retired from Civil Service, U.S. Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base with over thirty years service. Following retirement, Dewey began a long term affiliation with Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home and gained much personal satisfaction in assisting families during their time of loss. He was a member of First Christian Church until moving into the Masonic Square Community in 1987, then attended services at the Ohio Masonic Home. Dewey was a devoted Mason and belonged to St. Andrews Lodge, #619 F. & A.M., was Past High Priest of Shawnee Chapter #237,Royal Arch Masons; was a member of Springfield Council #17, Royal & Select Masons; Palestine Commandery #33, Knights Templar; Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; was Past Worthy Patron of Norris Chapter Order of Eastern Star; Holy Grail Conclave Red Cross of Constantine; and achieved the position of Grand Guard Emeritus of the Grand Chapter of Ohio, Royal Arch Masons.
Dewey was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Martha Belle (Tuttle) McClure in 2006, his parents, brother, Leo H. McClure, Jr., brother-in-law Wendell B. Tuttle, and nephew Jim Tuttle.
He is survived by his sister-in-law JoAnn Tuttle of Springfield; niece Bonnie Jo (Tuttle) Ayars and husband John of Mechanicsburg; great nephews Eli Tyler Ayars and Lucas J. Ayars of Mechanicsburg and Dr. Austin T. (Adrienne) Ayars of Phoenix, Arizona.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The Knights Templar will hold Commandery services at 7:30 PM Wednesday in the Memorial Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM. in the Memorial Home with Chaplain Howard Benson officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Temple Endowment Fund or First Christian Church.
