Thurman E. Lockard


Thurman E. Lockard, 90, of Springfield (formerly of Reynoldsburg, OH. and Palmetto, FL.) passed away November 1, 2008. He was born October 5, 1918 in Atlanta, OH, to the late George and Stella Lockard.

A United States WWII Army veteran Thurman served as a master sergeant in the 3rd Army-10th Infantry Division Company A; three years in Iceland and two years in Europe and was awarded two bronze stars for service.

Thurman (known as TL) had been an avid bowler, won many trophies as a horseshoe pitcher and enjoyed playing golf until this past spring. Thurman loved his family, most especially his wife Doris; they were married 62 years this past April. He was always a hard worker; employed by the Columbus Steel Supply Co., in Columbus, was an auxiliary police officer in Reynoldsburg in the 60's and retired from Shrum Steel in Bradenton.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, five sisters and an infant son.

Survivors include his wife Doris, daughter Connie (Jim) Weaver, sons; Gene (Faye) and Jerry (Marcy), grandchildren Scott (Nancy) Weaver, Sean (Shelley) Weaver and Tyler Lockard, great-grandchildren Seth and Tara, sisters Lily and Ethel, nieces and nephews, most especially Joanne Freeman and Esta Fields of Grove City, OH., Doyle and Bonnie Neal of Circleville, OH.

Arrangements were completed by the JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME.
