John W. Lavelle, Sr.


John (Jack) W. LaVelle, Sr., 89, died peacefully Friday, April 25, 2008.

He was born September 2, 1918 in Springfield, Ohio the son of William P. and Ellen M. ( Davis) LaVelle.

He was a 1937 graduate of Catholic Central High School. Mr. LaVelle served his country as a Sergeant in the Air Force during W. W. II. He formerly worked for Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Grimes, Steel Products and Kelsey-Hayes. He was a member and an usher for 40 years at St. Teresa Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Eagles and the V. F. W.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. LaVelle, in May 2005.

He is survived by his children; Susan ( Skip) Crosbie, John W. (Bridget) LaVelle, Jr., and Lois (Kevin Komin) LaVelle and a brother Charles LaVelle, all of Springfield; six grandchildren; Mary Louise, Robert and Sara Crosbie and Michael J., Joseph M. and Emily LaVelle, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers William H. LaVelle and Robert LaVelle and sister Miriam (LaVelle) Schartz.

Visitation will be held at the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME from 5 PM until 7 PM Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM Tuesday in St. Teresa Catholic Church with Father Edwin F. Gearhart officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Central High School in Mr. LaVelle's memory.
