Emilie Lemen


Emilie (Sollars) Lemen, 100, died peacefully on December 8, 2008, in the Oakwood Village Care Center.

She was the born in Columbus, Ohio on December 10, 1907 the daughter of Gilbert and Emiline Sollars.

Emilie was a lifelong member of High Street United Methodist Church and prior to her death was the oldest living member. She was a graduate of Springfield High School class of 1925 and received a teaching certificate from Wittenberg College in 1928 where she was a member of Tau Delta Theta n.k.a. Gamma Phi Beta. Prior to her marriage, she taught school in the Washington Court House system. She was a past member of Young Woman's Mission, Springfield Country Club and Gamma Phi Beta Alumni Association.

Her survivors include her daughters, Nancy Lemen Zimmerman, Peggy Lemen Black and Susie Lemen Brougher; five grandchildren Jennifer Black Smith, Bill Brougher, Beth Brougher, Katy Brougher Collier and Nancy Brougher Benincasa and fourteen great grandchildren; niece Ann Deer Pletz and nephew Stephen Sullivan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles W. Lemen, her sister Elizabeth Sollars Deer, sister-in-law Elizabeth Lemen Sullivan and son-in-law Charles B. Zimmerman.

A memorial service will be held at High Street United Methodist Church, 230 E. High St., Springfield. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

The family extends their thanks to the care givers at Oakwood Village.
