Shirley Ann Buffenbarger Koch

Shirley Ann Buffenbarger-Koch, 73, passed away in her home gracefully on Monday evening, September 10, 2007. She was born in Springfield, Ohio, on May 16, 1934, the daughter of Marion Arthur and Twila Fern (Hecker) Bowyer. She lived in Springfield all of her life. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1952 and married James W. Buffenbarger on November 7, 1954. James preceded her in death after 46 devoted years of marriage, four children, and nine grandchildren.

Following his death, she married Harry G. Koch on December 5, 2004. Shirley loved attending her grandchildren's school and sports activities. In addition, she enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards, and meeting with her card club and lunch-bunch groups. She also enjoyed the time she spent volunteering, especially the years at Maiden Lane EduCare. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She is survived by beloved husband Harry; daughters Diane (Richard) Fralick and Debra (David) Smith, both of Springfield; sons David (Jill) Buffenbarger of Mason, Ohio, and Douglas (Donna) Buffenbarger of Springfield; cherished grandchildren Clifford (special friend Alicia) and Richie (Jenny) Fralick, Jeremy and Samuel Smith, Seth and Elle Buffenbarger, and Blaine, Dylan, and Luke Buffenbarger. In addition, she leaves behind Harry's family, two sisters-in-law, one niece, four nephews, and a host of many dear and wonderful friends. Her titles of which she is most proud are devoted wife, mother, and "Maw-Maw" and will be remembered by many for her smile and laughter.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, September 13, from 6-9 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Springfield. The memorial service will be held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1801 St. Paris Pike, on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum. Because of Shirley's love for her church community, donations may be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1801 St. Paris Pike, Springfield, OH 45504.
