Otis E. Kirby


Otis E. Kirby, 91 of Springfield died Sunday March 1, 2009.

He was born in Springfield on January 14, 1918, the son of Otis and Jessie (Slagle) Kirby.

He was a Dairy Farmer for 50 years in Clark County with registered Jersey cattle and owner of Beaver Lake. He was past president of the Springfield Jersey Cattle Club, member of the Ohio Dairyman Association, a 50 year member of the Clark County Farm Bureau, an early member of the Farm Bureau Security Council, a past member of the board of the Miami Valley Dairy Association. He was Past Master of H.S. Kissell Lodge 674 F & A.M., a 50-year member of the Springfield Chapter #48 Royal Arch Masons, Valley of Dayton Scottish Rite, Antioch Temple of Dayton, Springfield Clark County Shrine Club and past president of Masonic Friendship Dance Club.

Survivors include his daughter Shari Knight and son-in-law Ed Urbanek, granddaughter and husband Kristi (Knight) Rodney Craddock, grandson Rob Knight & Jamie Irons and wonderful caregiver Sara Cotrell McClanahan, great grandsons Andrew and Tyler Craddock, nephew Ron (Diane) Ash of Lawrence, Kansas, dear friend Mary (Tuttle) Wisted of Spring, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Marjorie Neff Kirby and sisters: Marie Green, Maude Tinkom, Stella Trump, Elizabeth Ash and brothers: Cecil Kirby, Edwin Kirby, and Kenneth Kirby.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME with Masonic services beginning at 8:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Ferncliff Cemetery with Pastor Dan Powell officiating.
