John D. Kimball


John D. Kimball, 81, of Springfield, passed away at 10:06 PM Wednesday, March 25. 2009 in Community Hospital. He was born July 17, 1927, in Springfield, the son of Charles S. Kimball and Alice (Kerfoot) (Kimball ) Schloss.

Mr. Kimball was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church, was retired from International Harvester following 30 years of service and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Township # 2 Fire Department for 25+ years, was a member of the Eagles, the Rhythm Dance Club and Local # 402. He enjoyed playing the harmonica.

Survivors include his wife of 38½ years; J. Melanie (Huff) Kimball, two daughters; Susan Elaine (Mark) Johnston, Springfield, Pamela Haddix, Urbana, two sons; Gary (Kimberly) Bradley, Springfield, David (Molly) Bradley, Harmony, five grandchildren; Dawn Phillian, Evan Johnston, Tahlia Johnston, Kaitlin Bradley and Ty Bradley, one great grand daughter; Briauna Crosswhite, two brothers; Charlie ( Peggy) Kimball, Enon, Jo (Bernice) Kimball, Panama City, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters; Bessie Loney, Florence Bowling and Joann Patterson and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Dwight Coffelt officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until the time of the services. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.
