Martha A. Johnson


Martha A. (Toppins)(Fry) Johnson, 86, of Springfield, passed away at 1:26 PM Monday, June 2, 2008 in the Odd Fellows Home.

She was born February 20, 1922 in Urbana the daughter of James and Goldie (Frost) Toppins.

Martha had been employed at the Ohio Masonic Home for 35 years and at Eaglewood Care Center for 7 years. She enjoyed crocheting and fishing.

Survivors include six children: Elizabeth (Dean) Roberts, Springfield, Lucy (James) Venegas, Yuma, Arizona, John (Jennifer) Fry, Earl (Charlotte) Fry, Donna (John) Reynolds, Larry ( Barbara) Fry all of Springfield, 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, three sisters Goldie Runyan, Jean Phillips, Springfield, Maybelle (James) Kelly, South Charleston, three brothers Lee (Mickey) Toppins, Urbana, Ray (Pauline) Toppins, Gainesville, Georgia, Okie Toppins, South Vienna, special friends Minnie McKinney, Springfield and Carol Foren, Austin Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul J. Johnson, December 1998, her parents, two sisters Margaret Hopkins and Hazel Conley, and two brothers Tom Bowman and Edward Toppins.

Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday in the funeral home with Chaplin Gary Baker Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Vale Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson's family wishes to give special thanks to Ann Carr and Elizabeth Hardesty for all of their loving care.
