Walter Reeves Hyde


Walter Reeves Hyde, 82, of Springfield, died Wednesday March 4, 2009.

He was born September 5, 1926 in Cheoah, North Carolina, the son of the late Robert and Carrie (Rose) Hyde.

He served his country during World War II in the South Pacific as a sniper in the United States Marine Corp. He received his Purple Heart during the battle for Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Teamsters Union for thirty years.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Stephen West of Cypress, Texas; two sisters Edith Deaton and Unita Holcomb; two brothers DeWalt Hyde and Robert Hyde all of North Carolina.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia Rosa (Sharpe) Hyde.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
