Thomas J. Hannon, Sr.


Thomas J. Hannon, Sr., 94, of Springfield, died at 7:50 a.m. Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Heartland of Springfield.

He was born January 6, 1914 in Springfield, OH to Patrick J. and Mary (Brady) Hannon.

Tom retired in 1977 as the foundry manager for Cooper Energy after 43 years of service. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as an usher since the 1930's. He had been a football, basketball and baseball coach for St. Joseph School for 32 years, was an assistant football coach at Catholic Central High School, a Green Blazer Award recipient, member of the K of C # 3737, longtime member of the YMCA and served on many other committees at both St. Joseph Church and Catholic Central High School.

Survivors include 4 children and spouses, William E. and Beverly Hannon, Thomas J. and Barb Hannon, James "Tony" and Regina Hannon and Sue and Robert King all of Springfield; grandchildren, Connie, Brett, Heather (Bill), Erin (Shane), Tara (Jami), Carrie (Rob), Tony, Thomas, Ryan; Great grandchildren, Derrick, Taylor, Jordyn, Andrew, Alec, Patrick, Brody, Kylie, Kelty, Avery, Quinn, Chelsea, Sierra and Aiden; 1 brother in law; 5 sisters in law, including Alice Welch who provided much care this past year and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Helen M. in 2006; a daughter in law, Kathie (Dirscherl) Hannon; a sister, Mary McLean; and brothers, James, Vincent and Martin Hannon.

Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church which was an important part of his life.
