Retha L. Honefanger


Rethea L. Honefanger, 84, of Springfield, died on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 in her residence. She was born on July 7, 1922 in Yellow Springs, the daughter of Charles and Lucille (Cushard) Ballew.

Rethea was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and a former member of the Fidelia Rebekah Lodge IOOF. She also worked for many years at Wren's Department Store.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Dr. Jefferson Honefanger of Springfield, four children and their spouses: Albert R. First and Helen Winkley of Montana; Patricia Massie (John) of Springfield; Jefferson Honefanger (Janie) of Springfield; Kim Pitstick of Springfield; nine grandchildren: Debbie Ratliff, Amy Watson, John Massie Jr. (Teresa), Aaron Massie (Cathy Arnold), Mia Quinn, Hugh Quinn, Evan Pitstick, Christopher Honefanger, and Benjamin Honefanger; six great grandchildren: Tommy, Blake, Dylan, Hannah, Cara, and Chad; one sister, Rachel Althouse of Florida, one brother, Bill Williams of Springfield, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two great grandchildren: Jerred and Ashlee Watson.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2:00pm in the Central United Methodist Church, 102 W. High St., Springfield, with the Reverend Julie Carmean officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central United Methodist Church, Community Mercy Hospice, 1343 N. Fountain Blvd, Springfield, OH 45504, or the American Cancer Society, 2808 Reading Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45206.
