Robert Hamilton
Robert Hamilton, 83, of Springfield, died at 6:40 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at his residence.
He was born in Clark County on September 20, 1924, the son of Gale and Mildred (Shaw) Hamilton.
He retired in 1992 as a maintenance supervisor for Southern Village Shopping Center after 23 years of service. Prior to that he owned and operated The Gulf Service Station at the intersection of Selma Road and Oak Street and The Hamilton and Son Gulf Service on South Charleston Pike (Rt. 41) adjacent to Clark County Fairgrounds. He also was the owner and operator of an independent trucking company. He served our country in World War II with the U.S. Army Company B 736th Tank Battalion, receiving a Purple Heart, four (4) Bronze Stars, an American Campaign Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, a European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of the American Brittany Club, Clark County Sportsman's Club, U.S. Army 736th Tank Battalion (Special) Association, and an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his six children and their spouses, Barbara M. Cooper, M. Elaine (Aaron) Merritt, Robert G. (Brenda Gail) Hamilton, Steven A. (Teresa) Hamilton all of Springfield, Ben T. (Debi) Hamilton of Portsmouth and Paul E. (Sherry) Hamilton of Cincinnati; brother, James Hamilton of Bethel; 15 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews including, Linda M. (Bobby) Brown and Bonnie (Ray) Logan.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary M. Hamilton in 1985, one sister and three brothers.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements handled by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
