Mathilda "Tillie" Havas


Mathilda "Tillie" Havas, 92, of Springfield, passed away Friday afternoon, February 22, 2008 in the Ohio Masonic Community following a brief illness.

She was born on June 24, 1915 in Middletown, Ohio the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Magyar) Nagy.

She retired from the Higbee Company in Cleveland where she worked in the accounting department. An avid world traveler, she often found herself returning to her roots in Hungary. She enjoyed painting and pottery and loved knitting and making lace. Tillie was best known for her love of baking. She loved sharing her talents with others. She deeply cared for her Covenant Presbyterian family and was grateful to the deacons for her transportation. She will be greatly missed.

Tillie is survived by her son, Stephan (Yvonne) Havas of Gainesville, Georgia; daughter, Patt Kneisley and Jack Kneisley of Springfield; three grandchildren, Dean Havas of South Carolina, Jonathan (Katie) Kneisley of Stanford, Kentucky, and Grayson Kneisley of Indianapolis; and three great grandchildren, Sidney and Alyssa Havas of Greensboro, North Carolina and Sean Kneisley of Stanford, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stephen, and a granddaughter, Sheila Havas.

A private service will be held in Cleveland at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Limestone St., Springfield, Ohio 45503 or the Ohio Masonic Community, 2655 W. National Rd., Springfield, Ohio 45504.

The family would like to thank Candy Rinehart and the entire staff at the Ohio Masonic Community for the dedicated care given to not only Tillie but to the family as well.
