James Richard Hankel
James Richard Hankel, 70, of Springfield, died at 4:45 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2007 in the Ohio Masonic Home.
He was born in Springfield on September 3, 1936 the son of Henry L. and Hazel M. (West) Hankel. He retired from the Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18, after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church and a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Eagles, Union Club and Elks.
Survivors include his five daughters, Christine Soergel, Jackie Estep, Kathleen Jacobs, Jennie Thornton and Karla Beller; nine grandchildren, Trevor and Tucker Combs, Matthew and Delaney Jacobs, Amelia, Lane and Chloe Estep, Pete and Olivia Beller and sister, Mary Ann Cherry. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Irvin Edwin "Pete" and David Hankel.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Springfield Masonic Community for their kindness, care and compassion.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Deacon Norm Horstman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
